New reporting suggests the lengths the US deep state went to to undermine former US President Donald Trump.
Since 2016, Democratic Party officials have accused former US President Donald Trump of illegally colluding with the Russian government as part of the discredited “Russiagate” narrative. Now, it appears such claims may represent a case of projection on the part of Trump’s critics.
That’s the takeaway from a bombshell report by “Twitter Files” journalists Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger this week that suggests that CIA officials under former US President Barack Obama worked through English-speaking intelligence partners to spy on Trump’s presidential campaign.
The report alleges that the CIA under intelligence chief John Brennan worked with Five Eyes intelligence partners to circumvent legal restrictions against domestic spying by the agency. Five Eyes is an alliance of intelligence agencies in the United States, the UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
Brennan’s CIA allegedly colluded with these foreign intelligence agencies to conduct surveillance on the Trump campaign. The spy agency also reportedly targeted prominent people associated with the campaign, operating from a list of 26 figures that intelligence assets could attempt to extract information from.
Attorney Steve Gill and analyst Daniel McAdams joined Sputnik’s Fault Lines program on Thursday to discuss the shocking revelations.

"It's now becoming clear that despite all the claims that Trump didn't know what he was talking about when he said that his campaign operatives were being spied on by the federal government – they were,” noted Gill.

“It is deplorable that we have a federal government that is spying on our citizens, not because of a legitimate national security interest, but because the deep state is trying to protect their interests rather than the interests of fair and free elections,” he added. “You know, they're targeting their political opponent. This is the stuff that you see in third-world countries and allegedly in Russia, and it is despicable that it's not getting the backlash from the public and the media that it deserves.”

Host Jamarl Thomas then cut to a clip of a 2020 appearance by Trump on the 60 Minutes television program.

“The biggest scandal was when they spied on my campaign,” said Trump to reporter Leslie Stahl. “They spied on my campaign.” An argument then ensued between Trump and Stahl over whether the alleged spying actually took place.

“He was right,” Thomas observed after playing the clip.
“Leslie Stahl should be fired by 60 Minutes today,” said Gill. “All these people that have collected their Emmys and their awards for their journalistic integrity and their successes, including those that denied that the Russia hoax was being pushed by Hillary Clinton… at the very least they should be turning in their awards as they exit their positions of power in the media.”
Daniel McAdams, the executive director of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity, also commented on the bombshell report during the final hour of the program Thursday.

“The revelations about the spying on the Trump campaign now that have come out thanks to Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger… [are] astonishing because it tells you that the US was not able to spy on Trump legally [through] the intelligence community,” McAdams said. “So they asked their allies, 'Hey, spy on someone and tell us what's going on.'”

TLDR: Too Long, Didn't Russia?
Host Jamarl Thomas expressed skepticism towards certain elements of Tiabbi and Shellenberger’s reporting, including the justification the FBI allegedly used to search Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. But McAdams said the spying against Trump is typical of the abuses of the CIA during its long and sordid history.
“The one thing about [CIA director] John Brennan is that I wouldn't put anything past him,” he said. “He has such a history of mendacity… I mean, the guy, he's an absolute thug.”
The US Central Intelligence Agency is responsible for a long list of crimes and abuses, including torture, assassinations, human experimentation, sexual abuse, infiltration of the US media, plane hijacking, drug trafficking, terrorism, domestic spying, foreign spying, spying on members of Congress, lying to Congress, human rights violations, recruitment of Nazis, illegal funding of death squads, and political interference and coups in Ukraine, Haiti, El Salvador, Afghanistan, Iraq, Bulgaria, Panama, Nicaragua, Libya, Morocco, Grenada, Angola, Australia, Guatemala, Bolivia, Greece, Chile, Uruguay, Ghana, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Brazil, the Congo, Ecuador, France, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Italy, Syria, Costa Rica, Iran, Albania, Korea, the Philippines, and China, among other countries, according to author William Blum who extensively documented such efforts in his acclaimed and eye-opening book Killing Hope.

China Urges Philippines to Avoid Crossing 'Red Lines' on Taiwan: THE PHILIPPINES ARE THE TARGET OF A PREVENTIVE CHINESE INVASION BEFORE THE INVASION OF TAIWAN

China Urges Philippines to Avoid Crossing 'Red Lines' on Taiwan

BEIJING (Sputnik) - The Philippines should understand that the Taiwan issue is a "red line" for China and cannot be crossed, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Thursday, adding that Manila should not "play with fire."
On Wednesday, Philippine Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro called for the boosting of the country's military presence on the country's northernmost island of Mavulis located between the Batanes archipelago and Taiwan.

"The Taiwan issue is the main one of China's core interests and a ’red line’ that cannot be crossed, the relevant [persons] in the Philippines should have a clear understanding of this, act with caution, and not play with fire on the Taiwan issue to avoid being used and harmed," Wang told a briefing.

China and the Philippines are neighboring countries and friendly exchanges should remain the main focus in the history of their relations, he added.
The patrol involved the USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) littoral combat ship embarked with the MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter from the US, and the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (PS-15) ship with AW109 Helicopter (NH434) from the Philippines, the statement read.
The allied forces conducted maritime communication operations to "enhance interoperability" as part of the patrol, the US fleet said.
This was the third joint patrol of the US and the Philippines, following the those conducted in November and January.
In January, Teodoro announced plans to increase military activities with the United States and its allies due to China's alleged "aggressive" stance. The build-up of military capabilities will help to make an effective contribution to regional stability, the defense minister said. The same month, the Philippine and Chinese foreign ministers agreed to develop cooperation and resolve incidents in the South China Sea to reduce regional tensions.

Tensions between the Philippines and China in the disputed waters of the South China Sea have been on the rise since October 4, 2023, when Philippine vessels completed a resupply mission in Second Thomas Shoal despite blocking attempts by the Chinese coast guard.
Additionally, the two countries have territorial disputes over a number of islands in the South China Sea.

With the US-backed Ukrainian military continuing to suffer heavy battlefield losses and the Pentagon bogged down in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Biden administration decided to flex its muscles in the Pacific to send a "strong signal" to China.
Recently, Newsweek reported that a staggering five US Nimitz-class aircraft carriers - nearly half the US carrier fleet - will be deployed to the Western Pacific in the coming weeks to reassure Washington's regional allies that they have not been forgotten.
The warships selected for the show of force include the USS Abraham Lincoln, the USS Carl Vinson, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, the USS Ronald Reagan, and the USS George Washington.
The Carl Vinson and Theodore Roosevelt are already operating in the region, according to the newspaper, with the Carl Vinson having previously participated in joint US-Philippine naval exercises in the South China Sea. The drills were conducted in the disputed maritime region in early January. People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) warships were spotted in the vicinity, reportedly "observing" the US maneuvers. In February, the Carl Vinson and the Theodore Roosevelt participated in a military exercise with Japan in the Philippine Sea.

Experts Urge Philippines to Remain Restrained After Longest Pause of Provocation in South China Sea
"The show of force may satisfy some allied governments, but it could also confirm the impression in both friendly and hostile capitals that the US is overstretched and trying to take on too many tasks at the same time," the DC-based think tank Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft wrote, warning that "the US can ill afford a new crisis in East Asia on top of the other conflicts that it is involved in."
Still, the Chinese media's reaction to the deployment was remarkable. The Global Times, a Chinese daily known for its hard-line stance, ridiculed the upcoming deployment as mere "hype".
"The truth is, now and for a while to come, the only US aircraft carrier that is actively deployed is the USS Theodore Roosevelt," the media outlet said, citing the South China Sea Strategic Situation Probing Initiative (SCSPI), a Beijing-based think tank.

According to SCSPI, the USS Carl Vinson left Pearl Harbor on Monday and is expected to complete its Western Pacific deployment on its way back to the continental United States. While the USS Ronald Reagan is undergoing maintenance in Yokosuka, the USS Abraham Lincoln returned to San Diego on February 16. For its part, the USS George Washington is underway off the east coast of the US in the Atlantic Ocean, the Beijing-based think tank noted, citing fleet tracking data published by USNI News.
Only the USS Theodore Roosevelt is currently operating in the Philippine Sea after departing Guam on February 14, according to SCSPI.

Citing Chinese military experts, the Global Times expressed skepticism about Washington's ability to deploy all five aircraft carriers to the Western Pacific at once. The media noted that the US has been involved in too many conflicts to afford to send half of its carrier fleet to flex its muscles in the region. Moreover, the US shipbuilding industry "is also in decline," resulting in longer maintenance periods for American carriers, the Chinese daily noted. The media expect that Washington will be able to send no more than three such warships to the Western Pacific in the near future.

In any event, "[any] attempt to deter its potential competitors through a show of force cannot reach its goal, but can only stir up tensions in the region," the Chinese concluded.

It wasn’t the Lancet. M1A1SA Abrams destroyed an FPV drone Piranha

It wasn’t the Lancet. M1A1SA Abrams destroyed an FPV drone Piranha

Footage from a report by Rossiya 1 TV channel

The US M1A1 Abrams tank, which was destroyed near Avdeevka on 26 February, was hit not by a Lancet barrage munition, as previously reported on the Russian Aviation website, but by the Piranha FPV drone. This was reported on 28 February in the Vesti programme of the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

This information was confirmed to TASS by a representative of the Simbirsk Design Bureau (SKB) Piranha, where this kamikaze drone is developed and produced. According to him, the information was received from the customer, who provided correspondence with the battalion commander of the calculation that hit the tank. “There and told that it was our Piranha. And then already the information appeared in the news and Telegram channels with shots of burning Abrams,” said the interlocutor of the agency.

FPV-drone Piranha is the flagship modification of SKB, it was created taking into account the experience of special operations in Ukraine. The drone operates on atypical frequencies, which allows it to overcome the means of electronic warfare of the enemy. The radius of action with the maximum combat load reaches 10 km, and the warhead itself is capable of penetrating the dynamic protection of armoured vehicles.

“First of all, this device uses unique frequencies, it uses its own video transmitter, which is able to work even in conditions of strong influence of electronic warfare. It also uses a very effective propeller group, which allows to deliver a heavy load at extreme speed directly to the target,” the SKB representative told the Vestey broadcast

He added that after testing in combat conditions, the Russian Defence Ministry acknowledged the innovativeness of the Piranha video transmitters. “The technologies of this drone have been accepted with a positive assessment and show a high degree of protection against electronic countermeasures,” the representative of the Simbirsk Design Bureau said.

The first US-made Abrams tank used by Ukraine in the special military operation zone was destroyed by Russian forces in the Avdeyevka area last month.
Russia's Piranha-10 FPV (first person view) drone, which was used to hit a US-made Abrams tank that had been handed over to Kiev, is capable of carrying a payload of up to 4.5 kilograms , the head of public relations of the Simbirsk Design Bureau, which developed the drone, told Russian media.
The Simbirsk Design Bureau produces two unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) models - the Piranha-7 and Piranha-10. The payload of the first model is 2.5 kilograms. The drones differ in frame size and engines. The Piranha-10 is equipped with more powerful motors and wide propellers. The approximate cost of the drone is 50,000 rubles ($550).
A representative of the Simbirsk Design Bureau noted that the advantage of Piranha UAVs is the use of unique video frequencies.

"If the manufacturer uses standard video transmitters, the means of electromagnetic warfare can very easily suppress the signal. The drone loses either control or the image as soon as it begins to move away from the operator at a distance of 100-500 meters. In our case, however, the image is stable and crystal clear, as if there was no electromagnetic warfare influence. We first tested these frequencies at the Era military innovative technopolis of the Russian Defense Ministry, and we turned out to be the only manufacturer in Russia whose UAV did not crash," he said.

Since last winter, the Simbirsk Design Bureau has delivered more than 8,000 drones to the Russian military, and the company produces more than a hundred units every day.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Italian guided missile destroyer Duilio shot down a drone heading towards it in the Red Sea on Saturday, the Italian Defense Ministry said.
"This afternoon, guided by the principle of self-defense, the ship Duilio shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle in the Red Sea. The unmanned aerial vehicle, similar in its characteristics to those already used in previous attacks, was approximately 6 kilometers [3.7 miles] from the Italian ship and was flying towards it," the ministry said in a statement.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto called the Houthi attacks "terrorist," adding that they were a "serious violation of international law" and an "attack on the safety of maritime transport" on which the country’s economy depends, the statement read.
