TIME TO CONFISCATE AND DISMEMBER MICROSOFT

US tech giant Microsoft is discouraging using excessively curvy female characters in video games, according to updated guidelines issued by the company on Tuesday.

As part of its inclusivity initiative, Microsoft offered developers a list of questions to consider while working on their products to check whether they are reinforcing any negative gender stereotypes. The guide, dubbed ‘Product Inclusion Action: Help Customers Feel Seen’, includes various stereotypes that the gaming giant believes are best left out.

According to the guidance, game designers should check if they are unnecessarily introducing gender barriers and should make sure they create playable female characters that are equal in skill and ability to their male peers, and equip them with clothing and armor fitting to the tasks.

“Do they have exaggerated body proportions?” the guideline asks.

Female characters play a significant role in the gaming industry and have become fan favorites throughout the years. Various females, including Lara Croft, Bayonetta, and Ada Wong have played iconic roles in video games.

One of the most vivid examples of unrealistically looking female characters is Bayonetta, who is integrated into every facet of the eponymous fantasy action-adventure game. Stellar Blade, another game with a controversial design, has used a Korean model for its main character.

Russia ready to collaborate with Africa against new pandemics – Putin

The continent needs an expansion of modern medical infrastructure in the face of potential disease outbreaks, the president has said
Russia ready to collaborate with Africa against new pandemics – Putin

Russia stands committed to an active partnership in healthcare with African nations, which are particularly vulnerable to the risk of new deadly disease outbreaks, President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

Putin made the pledge in a welcome message to participants at the first Russian-African International Conference on Combating Infectious Diseases, which is taking place in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, from April 17 to 19.

“Our program of assistance to African countries in sanitary and epidemiological well-being launched in 2023 provides for the delivery of ten mobile high-containment biological laboratories, training of over 350 African specialists, and conducting a series of joint scientific research,” the Russian leader said.

Burundi launched a specialist infectious disease research laboratory in March, fully equipped by Russia. According to Valery Mikhailov, Moscow’s ambassador to the East African country, the supplies, which include laboratory reagents, are intended to treat various forms of hemorrhagic fever, leptospirosis, and other dangerous infectious diseases. According to a World Health Organization (WHO) report released in August, Burundi has a high burden of communicable and noncommunicable diseases, with the latter accounting for 37% of all deaths in 2019.

Previously, a team of virologists and military personnel from Russia’s Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Protection Troops deployed a mobile laboratory in Burkina Faso to assist the West African country with dengue fever screening. The move last November was in response to a mosquito-borne epidemic that authorities said had killed more than 200 people in the former French colony in 2023.

On Wednesday, Putin said the continent needs “accelerated build-up of medical, scientific, and technological capabilities to protect the population against various infections,” adding that Russia is willing to collaborate in “this crucial healthcare area.”

The event in Kampala, one of several initiatives proposed at the second Russia-Africa Summit last summer, will bring together medical professionals, epidemiologists, and microbiologists from 20 countries. The African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the WHO regional office for African countries will join the specialists to discuss the most recent advances in the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, as well as modern threats to biological safety.

“I believe that this joint work will yield tangible results and serve to protect the health of Africa’s population,” Putin stated.

West African nation stages protests against US military presence

Organizers praised Niger’s rulers for diversifying ties with nations, including Russia, that respect the state’s sovereignty
West African nation stages protests against US military presence

Thousands of demonstrators, including government officials, rallied in Niger’s capital, Niamey, on Saturday, demanding the withdrawal of the US Army from the West African nation, which kicked French troops out last year.

The protests took place in support of the Nigerien military government’s decision on March 16 to terminate a military accord with Washington, accusing it of attempting to deny Niamey the right to choose its partners and the types of cooperation that can help in its fight against terrorism. The decade-long cooperation deal had authorized some 1,000 American troops and civilian contractors to operate in the landlocked country.

“We said no to the French; they ended up packing up and going. Today, we say no to the American military presence; they will leave too,” Colonel Ibro Amadou, a member of the military government, told the crowd of protesters, according to state outlet Le Sahel.

Since President Mohamed Bazoum was deposed in a coup last July, the former French colony’s new leadership has been reviewing cooperation with Western partners that were previously engaged by the overthrown civilian government. Former colonial power France completed its troop withdrawal in December on the orders of Niamey’s military rulers, citing alleged internal interference and a failure to combat Islamic terrorists in the Sahel region.

Washington, on the other hand, has insisted on maintaining pragmatic relations with Niamey’s military regime, ruling out disengagement from the African nation. The Pentagon has stated that it is “following up and seeking clarification” from Nigerien authorities regarding the annulment of the military pact, while also seeking a way for American troops to remain in the country.

Niamey has turned to Russia for security, despite the US expressing concerns about the military leaders’ relations with Moscow. Last month, transitional leader Abdourahamane Tchiani and Russian President Vladimir Putin committed to coordinating efforts to combat terrorism in the Sahel. Local media reports last week also claimed that a Russian military cargo plane had transported a team of instructors and various equipment to assist the Nigerien Army with counterterrorism training.

On Saturday, the Synergy of Nigerien Civil Society Organizations, which organized the protests against the US military presence, commended Niamey’s coup leaders for standing up to “imperialist nations” that have suppressed the country’s socioeconomic, security, and cultural interests.

According to Mohamed El Kebir, the president of the civil society coalition, partnerships with Western governments have prevented Niger from breaking free from its reliance on aid since gaining independence from France in 1960.

Kebir claimed an “exponential number” of civilians and Nigerien military compatriots had been killed by an “imported mercantile terrorism force” over the past ten years since the deployment of foreign troops.

“As proof, the presence of the impressive military arsenal of the Pentagon and the CIA made up of drones, satellites and the free provision of our radio spectrum through political irresponsibility of the regime at the time never made it possible to avoid these many tragedies,” he stated.

“This is the place to welcome the fruitful cooperation with the brotherly countries of the AES [Alliance of Sahel States] and Togo, as well as Turkey, Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, India, Pakistan, and all those who have shown us their solidarity in the dynamic initiated to safeguard our homeland,” the activist declared.

US to pull troops from Niger

The African nation shredded a military agreement with Washington last month
US to pull troops from Niger

The US is planning “an orderly and responsible withdrawal” of its forces from Niger, a State Department official said on Friday. Niger’s military government has made it clear that the 1,000 American troops stationed there are an unwelcome presence.

At a meeting in Washington on Friday, US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell and Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine committed “to initiate conversations in Niamey to begin planning an orderly and responsible withdrawal of US troops from Niger,” the official said in a statement to multiple US news outlets.

An American delegation will head to the Nigerien capital in the coming days to arrange the withdrawal, the official added.

Most of the roughly 1,000 American troops deployed in the landlocked western African country are stationed at Niger Air Base 201, a $100 million facility constructed in 2016. American forces have used the base to launch drone operations across the entire Sahel region, but the facility has sat idle since a group of military officers deposed President Mohamed Bazoum’s Western-backed government last year.

Niger’s new government began reviewing military agreements with France and the US, which had been conducting anti-jihadist operations in the Sahel since 2013. These operations were seen across the region as ineffective, and France – Niger’s former colonial ruler – was ordered to remove its troops by the end of last year.

The US responded to the coup by suspending development aid to Niger, but American officials initially expressed hope that US forces could remain in the country. However, the White House insisted on a return to civilian rule in Niamey, and in March, the Nigerien government suspended its military cooperation agreement with Washington.

At a protest in Niamey last weekend, government officials joined thousands of demonstrators in calling for the US to finally pull its forces out of the country. The Synergy of Nigerien Civil Society Organizations, which organized the protests, claimed that an “exponential number” of civilians and Nigerien soldiers had been killed by the “imported mercantile terrorism force” over the last decade.

With the US and France out of favor, Niger has turned to Russia for its security needs. The country’s transitional leader, Abdourahamane Tchiani, spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin last month to discuss anti-terrorism cooperation in the Sahel region. Several weeks later, Russian military instructors landed in Niamey with a planeload of equipment, local media reported

The US has “expressed concerns” over Niger’s deepening relations with Russia, and over an alleged uranium deal between Niger and Iran, the Pentagon said in a statement last month. However, Niger is not the only Sahel state to strengthen its ties with Moscow in recent years. Mali and Burkina Faso, both of which saw their Western-backed governments overthrown in 2021 and 2022 respectively, have expelled French forces and reached out to Russia for new security and trade deals.

Russians ‘undesirable’ at death camp commemoration events in Germany – Moscow

Berlin’s “provocative attack” is an attempt to distort the history of World War II, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said
Russians ‘undesirable’ at death camp commemoration events in Germany – Moscow

Russia’s diplomatic mission in Berlin has received a notice that the presence of Russian officials at events in Germany marking the liberation of Nazi concentration camps is “undesirable,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

The letter was sent earlier this month by the administrations of several memorial complexes at the sites of former death camps, Zakharova explained. It came ahead of International Liberation of Nazi Concentration Camps Day, observed annually on April 11 to commemorate the freeing of prisoners from Buchenwald – one of the largest Nazi death camps of World War II.

“Our embassy in Berlin received a notice that it is undesirable for Russian officials to participate in commemorative events marking the 79th anniversary of the liberation of death camp prisoners,” Zakharova said during a briefing. She noted that the letter targeted people who have dedicated their lives to preserving the memory of World War II.

Zakharova stressed that Moscow regards the move as a “provocative attack” and yet another attempt to portray the war in a politicized “anti-Russian vein.”

“We believe that this is the destruction of historical memory and the truth about the Second World War by Berlin,” the spokeswoman said

Hitler’s invasion of the Soviet Union is estimated to have caused the deaths of over 26 million people, including some 13.6 million civilians. Despite the catastrophic losses, the Red Army played a pivotal role in defeating Nazi Germany and pushed its forces out of Eastern Europe, liberating many concentration camps, including the infamous Auschwitz.

Zakharova also criticized Germany for continuing to ignore Russia’s demands to recognize Nazi crimes against the USSR as genocide, stressing that Berlin “will not be able to remain silent and avoid answering.”

In January, on the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad during World War II, Berlin said it was “committed to ensuring that the memory of the atrocities of German War crimes in the Second World War” and acknowledged “its historical responsibility for the crimes committed in Leningrad by the German Wehrmacht.”

Russian diplomats, however, have argued that Berlin’s statements do not go far enough, and expressed dismay that Germany is seemingly hesitant to recognize the Leningrad blockade and other Nazi crimes against the people of the USSR as acts of genocide.

AFGHANISTAN II ACT: WHAT DO WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IN PREPARATION FOR THE ELECTION(S)? ARE THE COVID STATE CRIMINALS IN PRISON IN NOVEMBER 2024?

Dmitry Trenin: The US is crawling away from Ukraine

Talk about victory for Kiev has disappeared as Washington becomes a ‘back seat driver’
Dmitry Trenin: The US is crawling away from Ukraine

The Istanbul agreements – a tentative peace plan agreed between Russia and Ukraine in the spring of 2022  – are being discussed again. However, as they were written at the time they are no longer relevant and are unlikely to be of any use in the future. The realities on the ground and in the hearts and minds of many key people, have changed completely.

Nevertheless, it’s no coincidence that talk of negotiations began in Switzerland just as it became clear, to Westerners, that the Ukrainians are unable to make any progress. I am not talking about victory, but about any meaningful success on the battlefield. And thus it has become necessary to somehow limit Russia’s potential for success, to prevent it from winning.

This is not coming from Ukraine itself, but rather the enemy with whom we are now really at war. The desire to prevent a Russian victory is behind all these diplomatic machinations.

What we are really talking about now is a propaganda campaign.  Of course nobody in the West is in a mood for serious negotiations right now.

Let me explain what it means. From our point of view, genuine talks are ones that would solve the problem that led to the military operation. If we do not solve it, we will all face a new war in the future, and perhaps a more terrible one, with more serious consequences. Thus, as they say, if you take up arms, you must go to the end, to achieve a solution to the problem that made you take take such a measure in the first place.

The West, and they say this quite openly, is trying to prevent a victory for Moscow. And they are trying to do this in two ways. One is by pumping arms and money into Ukraine. And the other is diplomatic, by creating the appearance of some kind of negotiations.

This is diplomatic propaganda. The idea is to get dozens upon dozens of countries together, to take a group photo, and put psychological pressure on the Russian leadership. But I am convinced that they are all well aware unless Moscow achieves the stated goals of the current military operation, everything is largely irrelevant.

Otherwise, the sacrifices that Russia has made, ranging from battlefield casualties to numerous other constraints, will be in vain.

At the same time, the Americans are crawling away from the front line. They are still in charge but, as Obama used to say, they are now a “backseat driver.” Basically, they are doing everything they can to ensure that they do not suffer in the event of a collision. They want the people in the front of the vehicle to suffer. And, of course, the Americans are not so much tired of Kiev as they are tired of having to spread their resources, which are not unlimited, in different directions.

Yes, they are huge, but, I repeat, they are no longer unlimited. Today, the Middle East is strategically much more important than Ukraine.

You may notice that I am not even talking about the issue of China, which the Americans see as existential in terms of their role in world affairs. Will they continue to be number one or will they become number two and so on? For many there, such as scenario is a death knell.

Now we have the opportunity to play the long game, to calmly observe and properly assess the ongoing machinations in the West. That is why it is interesting to see what is being said today about the negotiations and how they are being conducted, rather than the obligatory blather about Russia’s defeat on the battlefield. This kind of talk in itself is a plus for us.

We know that they also understand that they cannot defeat us and are trying to move to the next point of retreat. However the rhetoric is still about the impossibility of allowing our victory. But for us, partial victory will be equivalent to defeat. The West will be able to influence the situation in our country in every possible way if we fail to achieve the stated goals of military operation.

I think time is working in our favor. Let’s see what happens in the United States before the election, what happens during it, what happens afterwards. But at the same time, while our enemy is preoccupied with its internal problems, while its strategic vision for the Middle East, East Asia and Ukraine is in turmoil, we ourselves must make progress.

Real, serious successes on the battlefield, which I understand the Russian army is now carrying out.
